Police Community Support Officer of the Year

The 2009 award was won by Sean Ford (Bristol), who is now training to be a PC but was previously based at Bishopsworth Police Station.

I was really surprised and happy to win. Just knowing that people want to vote for you and that they are really happy with the work that you do is a great feeling. All the PCSOs do a really good job but to be announced as the winner in front of everyone makes it really special. It was really good for the people who nominated me to be there and experience it with me too.

About the award

Police Community Support Officers play a fundamental role in providing the community reassurance that Neighbourhood Policing is designed to deliver.

The winner will be a PCSO who has worked in partnership with their local neighbourhood to make a real difference in reducing crime and improving the quality of life for all the community.

Award Criteria for panel short listing:

A PCSO who, on a day-to-day basis, has personal contact with their local community. They offer visible reassurance to their communities and help to improve the quality of life of local people.
The PCSO makes a real difference in the neighbourhood by working with partners and the local community to identify and develop long-term solutions to local problems.
The PCSO should be seen by their community, and their neighbourhood team, as an essential element in the life of the neighbourhood providing a shining example of the difference effective neighbourhood policing can make.
